Fifth Place For Parente And Scuderia Coloni In The Bahrain GP2 Asia Qualifying

Scuderia Coloni confirmed its good shape in the first sessions of the last GP2 Asia event.

The Italian team was among the top runners during the whole day, clinching the fifth spot on the grid for tomorrow's race 1 thanks to a great drive by Alvaro Parente. The Portuguese driver stopped the clock on the time of 2'07"413, only three tenths adrift of poleman Luca Filippi. It was a really close fight for the top spots, and Alvaro managed to beat Javier Villa and Jules Bianchi taking out the most from his second set of tyres.

Parente, who improved the 7th laptime obtained in the morning free practice, did a perfect lap, a great reward for the great job done by the team in setting up the car. Finding the good setup for qualifying was indeed a challenge because the grip of the track was very different from what the drivers experienced in the morning Free Practice, mainly due to the rubber left on the asphalt by the F1 cars.

Will Bratt had less luck in his qualifying session, never finding the pace to climb the classification. He will start from 11th row tomorrow, but he will have the time to work with the team in order to find the best strategy for a great recovery in the feature race.

Alvaro Parente: "I had a reasonable qualifying. First set of tyres was not so good as I got stuck in traffic and also the car needed a small change; so after on the second set of tyres we changed that small thing and the car improved quite a bit, I had no traffic, and we were just missing a little bit on 2nd sector of the track. For tomorrow our aim is to get a good competitive car, make the tyres last the whole race and to finish the race in a good postion".

Will Bratt: "Today I had a really bad qualifying, so I will have a lot of work to do tomorrow. My aim is to move forwards as far as possible in the race, aiming for top 8".
