Day Begins His North American Career with Solid Test at MSR Houston

INDIANAPOLIS, IN - After making great waves in the motorsports world with his historic signing into the Mazda Road to Indy ladder, Israeli Alon Day headed to MSR Houston with Belardi Auto Racing to commence his career in North American motorsport and begin his assault on the Firestone Indy Lights Championship.

"I am absolutely delighted with the outcome from the Houston test," said Day. "It was my first test as an official BAR [Belardi Auto Racing] driver so it was very important for me to perform well and learn more about the team and the personalities in the team and visa versa.

"I am honestly very happy with the people which I will be working with this year and believe, as an overall package, we will be very strong. We had a great pace over the course of both days and I learned a vast amount about the Indy Lights car and how it needs to feel to get the most out of it. For sure, the team and I are crossing the days off our calendar and can't wait to get started!"

First encountering snow and an ice storm in Indianapolis while visiting the Belardi Auto Racing shop for his seat fitting, Alon then battled rain and subsequent delays while at MSR Houston. However, nothing seems to be stopping the Indy Lights rookie who made impressive runs straight out of the box while testing in Texas.

"Alon continues to impress us and reiterates our faith in his natural ability and intelligence," Brian Belardi, team owner, said. "He is absolutely incredible in the No. 9 car, and we are itching to go racing. I definitely see 2012 being a great year for Alon."

Alon will next be in action at Sebring International Raceway on February 21 and 22 where both he and Belardi Auto Racing will be undergoing their final two days of testing prior to the official Firestone Indy Lights series' tests in March.
