Sergio Rinland Gives a Lecture At "Universidad de La Rioja"EPSILON's Engineering Director revealed the designing process of a Formula 1 to an audience of 200 people at the Rioja Gran Vía Cultural Centre
Organized by the "Universidad de La Rioja" Innovation Department, Sergio Rinland offered last Friday the conference "Designing process of a racing car: everything you always wanted to know about how to design a Formula 1 car" in front of an audience over 200 people at the Rioja Gran Vía Cultural Centre. Formula 1 is a cutting-edge technology laboratory in terms of motorsports industry. In spite of the democratization that is lately undergoing, thanks to raising figures such as De la Rosa, Gené, Alguersuari and, mainly, the Alonso phenomenon, the technical side behind the curtain has always been significantly unknown to the general public. However, there is more we want to know now. Especially after a season where the double diffuser meant a World Championship title for the Brawn GP Team, engineering generates more interest than ever. Proof of this where the over 200 people attending Sergio Rinland's lecture through which he thoroughly analyzed the ins and outs of a racing car designing process' followed by a popular round of questions. The interest aroused was so big that some of those attending had to stay out given the auditorium limited capacity. Engineer and MBA, since graduating Sergio Rinland has exclusively worked in the motorsports world. Key member of prestigious Formula 1 teams engineering staff, such as Williams, Brabham and Benetton, for the last few years Rinland has been taking on more and more responsibility becoming Chief Designer in Sauber (previously BMW-Sauber) and Arrows. Sergio Rinland is considered to be one of the top racing car designers' and, since 2007, holds the position of Engineering Director at EPSILON EUSKADI. The Innovation Department is a common initiative of the Industry, Innovation and Employment Regional Ministry from La Rioja Government, the Businessman Federation and the University, that pretends to encourage the "triple helix" model. This consists in enlarging the collaboration among the three leading actors in R&D&I: public administrations, university and enterprise. Through the Department, awareness, spreading, promotion and education activities are carried out at all levels in R&D&I related topics and its management. Sergio Rinland: "I would like to thank the 'Universidad de la Rioja' because it was a fantastic experience. There was a great response leaving, unfortunately, quite a few people out because the hall was full. People enjoyed the things I explained and there were a lot and good questions at the end. It was a great occasion to spread engineering and thanks to that contribute to encourage education; a main principle for me and one of EPSILON's fundamental pillars."
