Carlin drivers top Rockingham test
Carlin's British F3 team enjoyed another successful pre-season test today, with Jean Eric-Vergne setting the quickest time over two days at the Rockingham Motor Speedway. Vergne edged ahead of team mates James Calado and Adriano Buzaid who made it a Carlin 1-2-3 on the combined time sheets.
Taking part in his first season of F3, Vergne has clearly got to grips with his Volkswagen powered Carlin Dallara based on his recent test form. Vergne was the only driver over the two day test to get below the 1minutes 11seconds mark and despite topping the timesheets again this afternoon, was unable to replicate his time from this morning's session. Vergne's team mates Calado and Buzaid also appeared to find the right set-up for the 1.9 circuit, as they set times to put them second and third quickest over the two day test. Former Formula BMW racers Rupert Svendsen-Cook and Jazeman Jaafar also completed another encouraging test, to finish 12th and 13th overall. Speaking about his first ever visit to the Rockingham circuit, Vergne said, "We had a good test here, for sure I think we learnt a lot about the car and the circuit and I was very happy to finish quickest overall. I think we are really making some good steps forward now. With every session I feel I know more about the car and feel more comfortable." Carlin race director Trevor Carlin added, "Rockingham isn't normally one of our most rewarding circuits as a team, but we've gained a lot of useful information here and proven that we can be quick. Once again, all five drivers put in a strong performance and Jean-Eric's fastest lap this morning was unbelievable." Carlin's British F3 team will be back out on track on 11th March at the Oulton Park circuit in Cheshire.
