Philip Major joins Carlin for British F3

Canadian Philip Major will join current British F3 champions Carlin Motorsport for the remainder of the 2009 British F3 season. The 20 year-old driver will race alongside Daniel Ricciardo, Max Chilton and Henry Arundel and will make his debut with the team at the next round at Snetterton in July.

Major already has one year's experience in British F3 and took four top 10 finishes over the course of his rookie season in the competitive series. Before racing in Formula 3, Major competed in Formula BMW USA.

Major joins the Carlin squad with four events of the season already gone. In that time, the Carlin squad have won three races and claimed seven podium positions. Daniel Ricciardo, the team's Red Bull racer currently leads the championship standings by 15 points.

With six events remaining, Major will race with Carlin at prestigious circuits such as Silverstone, Spa and Brands Hatch.

An excited Major said, "I have been given a fantastic opportunity to race for Carlin Motorsport and I'm really looking forward to racing with the team. It was tough sitting out the start of the year, but now I'm even hungrier to get back to racing. With the championship nearly half over, we are clearly focused on winning races."

Speaking about the team's new signing, Carlin Director Martin Stone said, "We're very much looking forward to Philip joining the team at Snetterton. He has already missed part of the season, but we'll be working hard to help him get up to speed quickly. There are still some great circuits to come on the British F3 calendar and we'll be aiming to get Philip near the top as soon as possible."

The next British F3 race will take place at Snetterton in Norfolk from 3 - 5 July.
