Carlin's Jean-Eric Vergne set the pace at Silverstone today, as practice got underway for the second round of the 2010 Cooper Tires British F3 Series. The 20 year-old Frenchman, who currently leads the championship standings, was quickest in both the morning and afternoon practice sessions.

Testing on the new Silverstone circuit - which was officially, opened by Red Bull drivers David Coulthard and Mark Webber yesterday - Red Bull Junior driver Jean-Eric Vergne enjoyed a healthy gap at the top of the timesheets in this morning's practice session.

Against the odds, conditions remained dry for the second session of the day this afternoon. Buzaid looked fast throughout the session; the Brazilian headed the top of the timesheets for a time and ended the session third quickest. James Calado was also on the pace, the Racing Steps Foundation driver was fifth quickest, while Lucas Foresti was ninth and Rupert Svendsen-Cook tenth quickest. Jazeman Jaafar was pushing hard and was fifth fastest when he was caught out at Copse and crashed heavily, also hurting his left wrist. Despite missing the second half of the session and a run on new tyres, Jaafar finished the afternoon 11th quickest, meaning all six Carlin cars finished the day in the top 11.

Reflecting on testing, pace setter Vergne said, "We had a good day but I think we still have quite a lot to do. It's always good to be the quickest in testing, but the second session was much closer and it wasn't easy. I think there is still quite a lot we can do with the car and some areas I can improve on. There is definitely still more to come. We have a lot of work to do this evening to be ready for qualifying in the morning, it certainly isn't done yet!"

Trevor Carlin added, "Once again the team have done a fantastic job and I think to have all six cars in the top eleven in both sessions says something not just about the quality of the drivers but also the hard work the team have put in. This weekend is going to be extremely competitive and it will be important to keep improving throughout in order to not fall behind."

Track action will resume tomorrow morning at 10.00 local time when the Formula 3 drivers qualify for races 1 and 3.
