Vergne tops the time sheets at Snetterton
Carlin's Jean-Eric Vergne topped the time sheets at the British F3 official test at Snetterton today and was the only driver to drop the 1minute 2second barrier. Vergne was fastest overall in what was a successful test for the Carlin F3 squad, as all six of the team's drivers finished the day within the top ten. Following on from last weekend's chaotic British F3 event at Rockingham - which provided four podium finishes for the Carlin squad - today's official test at Snetterton will prepare the drivers for the ninth round of the season which will take place at the Norfolk track in August. Vergne topped two of today's three test session, shaving just 0.003 seconds off his best time this morning in the final session of the day. Vergne consistent pace emphasises his current form, which has seen the Red Bull Junior driver take a 51 point lead in the driver standings. Also on form at the Snetterton circuit today was 18 year-old Lucas Foresti who was the next quickest Carlin driver, setting the fourth fastest time of the day. The young Brazilian continues to improve with every event and was third quickest in the final session of the day. Foresti will now head to Germany to race with Carlin in the fifth GP3 event of the season. James Calado put in a characteristically consistent performance and was fifth quickest overall, while team mate Rupert Svendsen-Cook showed signs of improvement setting the eighth quickest time, having been struck down with stomach flu at last weekend's event at Rockingham. Adriano Buzaid was ninth overall despite a mechanical issue in the final session, while Jazeman Jaafar set the tenth quickest time of the day. Reflecting on the test, Trevor Carlin said, "Testing isn't always about finishing quickest, it's about working through and learning from a comprehensive test programme. The team definitely did that today. All the drivers tried various set-up changes, some of which worked and some which didn't, but at the end of the day it's encouraging to see all of the drivers in the top ten. We also tried a few things for our base set up at Spa, so we're in good shape for the next event in Belgium."
