1-2 for Signature at Norisring: Mortara ahead of Wittmann

  Air temperature: 30.9 °C
Track temperature: 46.3 °C

With his third victory of the season, Edoardo Mortara (Signature) extended his lead in the drivers' standings of the Formula 3 Euro Series. The Italian now has 16 points more than Marco Wittmann (Signature), who finished second in his home race at the 2.3 kilometres long Norisring in Nuremberg. Valtteri Bottas (ART Grand Prix) and Alexander Sims (ART Grand Prix) followed the Signature duo across the finish line.

Again in summery temperatures, Edoardo Mortara took the lead at the start from Valtteri Bottas and Marco Wittmann. Just before the end of the race, the clerk of the course sent out the safety car following a collision between Matias Laine (Motopark Academy), Daniel Juncadella (Prema Powerteam) and Nicolas Marroc (Prema Powerteam), in which the two Prema drivers collided. At the restart, with four laps remaining, Mortara retained the lead while Wittmann overtook Bottas for second shortly after that. Behind Sims and Roberto Merhi (Mücke Motorsport), Carlos Muņoz (Mücke Motorsport) crossed the line in sixth place. Thus, the best-placed rookie of the race scored his first-ever championship points in the Euro Series.

Edoardo Mortara (Signature): "It was a tough race. At times, I drove like in qualifying. But I knew that it would be difficult to overtake me, provided I wouldn't make a mistake."

Marco Wittmann (Signature): "Together with my team, I opted for a different tyre strategy and therefore I knew that I wouldn't be very quick in the early stages of the race. The restart after the safety car was my final change to overtake Valtteri. Although it was close, I finally made it."

Valtteri Bottas (ART Grand Prix): "The start of the race was good and I managed to put Edoardo under pressure. At the restart, I already saw in the rear-view mirror that Marco had a good slipstream and was therefore really quick. I couldn't do anything against his attack. I am slightly disappointed with my third place. But I don't give up yet. The season is still long and there are still eleven races remaining."
