Good Race 1 For Scuderia Coloni In ValenciaValencia's Race 1 was a satisfying one for Scuderia Coloni, because both the team's drivers managed to recover some ground: Alberto Valerio, who started from P13, was ninth at the end of the race while Vladimir Arabadzhiev, starting from the 20th spot of the grid, boasted a strong recovery closing the race in P12.
As it often happens on street circuits, Valencia's first race was a very difficult one from a strategy standpoint, and was affected by two early crashes that took 8 cars out of contention. As the crashes happened at the back of the grid Valerio had no worries while Arabadzhiev was involved in the first one, damaging the front of his car. Despite this, the Bulgarian driver kept pushing and after being third for a while thanks to a late pit-stop, he started fighting with Sergio Perez for P11 after the tyre change. Despite being at his first time on the Valencia street circuit Arabadzhiev managed to keep the pace of the poleman, even putting pressure on him for 10 laps. Good race also for Valerio: the brazilian was in front of Ericsson and Herck until the tyre change. The team opted for an early stop but the rear jack remained stuck in the joint and remained attached to Valerio's car for half of a lap, meaning a two position loss. So, at the end of the race Valerio was ninth, missing the points and the pole start for race 2 by just a tiny bit. Alberto Valerio: "For me it was a big shame to not score points today! We were so close to, but I lost two positions after the pit-stop! As we decided to stop early, in the end of race i payed the price and couldn't push for overtaking with worn tyres! I hope to score the points that miss today in the race tomorrow!". Vladimir Arabadzhiev: "For me it was a little difficult in the begining because of the circuit which was new to me but after the half of the race things started to be very good. Unfortunately I started from P20 and was involved in the 2nd corner crash which destroyed my front nose. At the end of the race my engine broke before the finish line but looking at the weekend as awhole I'm happy because the car improved a lot i think next races will be much better. So thanks to the team and to my engineer!".
