Spin Costs Pic a Chance Of PointsFrenchman Charles Pic finished 10th in today's GP2 Series race at Silverstone, but it was a case of what might have been. The Frenchman slipped from sixth to seventh on the opening lap... and then spun farther down the field after another car hit him on lap three. He opted to make an early tyre stop, after six laps, and then lapped quickly and consistently to the end. He was only able to salvage 10th place, however.
Team-mate Rodolfo Gonzalez made his customarily strong progress: starting 21st, the Venezuelan drove a clean, error-free race to finish 16th. Charles: "My start was OK, but not the best - and I got stuck behind Oliver Turvey, who was slow off the line. That enabled Giedo van der Garde to get a run on me and there was nothing I could do to defend my position. As for my spin, I was simply minding my own business when Sergio Perez hit me from behind. That put me 14th, but I managed to overtake Michael Herck before my pit stop and afterwards passed both Marcus Ericsson and Jérôme d'Ambrosio. I still need to improve certain aspects of my driving and there is scope to fine-tune the car, but I'm confident I can get a good result tomorrow. Winning might be difficult from 10th on the grid, but it's certainly possible to score points." Rodolfo: "I made yet another good start, picking up about four positions, but I struggled with my chassis balance - I was plagued with understeer all afternoon. The tyres went off a little towards the end, too, but that was probably the same for everyone. It's difficult to make progress at this track, because the main straight is so narrow and there isn't much scope for overtaking at the first corner. I'm pleased to record another finish, though, and look forward to achieving a more positive result tomorrow."
