Valencia, Great Recovery By Arabadzhiev In Race 2

The second race of the GP2 weekend in Valencia was a good one for Scuderia Coloni thanks to Vladimir Arabadzhiev boasting a wonderful drive that allowed him to recover from P23 to 9th place!

The Bulgarian driver already showed a great feeling with the Spanish street circuit on Saturday battling with poleman Sergio Perez, but in the second race Vladimir did even better, making up an incredible 14 places!

The start was vital to this, because Arabadzhiev choose the right way through the field, avoiding a big crash in the first corner. He made up some places thanks to this, and the rest was done with an astonishing pace, as good as the front pack. In the final stages of the race Vladimir found himself fighting for P8 with Jerome D'Ambrosio and had to take care of a charging Sam Bird behind him: he managed also this situation in the best possible way, keeping cold blood and taking his best GP2 Main Series result so far.

Meanwhile, Alberto Valerio's race was over in the first corner. When the pack spreaded on track for the first braking, the brazilian driver was forced to take the inside and had really little grip braking on the dirt side of the track. That's why he hit Sergio Perez's car. Because of this accident Valerio will face a 10 position penalty in the first race of the next GP2 weekend, planned for July 9- 11 in Silverstone.

Paolo Coloni: "We are really happy of Vladimir's performance, he's improving race by race. Here in Valencia, on a track he didn't know, he did a perfect race: he had a really strong pace and he was also very good in the race management, and the result was this great recovery. Alberto made a mistake but things like this do happen in racing, especially if you're braking where there's no grip. I'm sorry because the 10 position penalty won't make things easier in Silverstone, and I'm also sorry for Perez, he was out of the race without any fault".

Vladimir Arabadzhiev: "I wasn't hoping for such a good result starting from the back of the grid. I'm happy that I showed that I can fight on a par with guys like Perez, D'Ambrosio and Bird, and I'm really satisfied of the progression I'm having together with the team. In Valencia we tried some new set-up solutions and I felt much more comfortable in the car. This means that I can push more, and I have to say thanks to the team for this. Now I hope to keep momentum!".
