Valsecchi Makes His Point

The Valencia GP2 weekend concluded as chaotically as it had started, with several drivers eliminated during the opening lap of this morning's Sprint race - and a prolonged Safety Car period in the wake of another accident on lap two. iSport team-mates Davide Valsecchi and Oliver Turvey drove clean, aggressive races to record a double finish, however, and Valsecchi pulled off one of the event's best moves to claim sixth place and the final championship point.

Davide Valsecchi

"I made a really good start, but then lost a couple of places when we got to Turn Two. Several drivers were involved in an accident and I had to run wide to avoid becoming involved. The Safety Car then appeared before the race had settled down - and it is quite hard to keep everything working properly in those circumstances. Tyre pressures drop, which lowers the ride height, and the brake temperatures fall away, too. At one point the water temperature was getting a bit too low, so I had to work the car quite hard to prevent the engine defaulting to 'safe' mode. That's easier said than done when you aren't actually racing. Once we resumed, I was pleased to put a nice, clean pass on Dani Clos to secure sixth, but there wasn't much more I could do to make further progress."

Oliver Turvey

"It has been a quiet end to a disappointing weekend. Starting so far back, I knew a decent result was extremely unlikely and my main focus was simply to get to the finish and put some more miles under my belt. I don't think we had the set-up quite right today. The track conditions change constantly and changes that should work in theory sometimes make you slower in practice. It's a strange circuit in that respect, but at least I have learned a few of its quirks and that will help me in future."
